The Magic of A.I.
By T. Delaplain
“The ancient ones will never comprehend this novel intelligence,” whispered Wesley, the first-year witchling. Her hands swiftly danced across the keys, clacking out the code for her love spell. A day would arrive when there would be no need for newt eyes or cauldrons. Soon, all the incantations and rituals practiced from every coven, in every language, would be digitized. Centuries of magic, searchable by the average witch. No longer would hours be spent poring over the ancient alchemy tomes.
With a huff, the sentry took flight as the typewriter burst into flames, completely erasing Wesley’s thoughts.

I blame the owl. Never trust an owl.

Back up back up back up! First rule of writing, even for witches!

I hope the owl didn’t wipe the memory of where she hid the back up. Sneaky little witch.
Thanks for the reminder.

Now there’s a creative idea, Tracy, AI performing magic, although I guess the sentry wasn’t having it. Love it!

I think the elders have more control over their A.I. than we do. I’m glad you enjoyed my story.

I can think of no-one better qualified to subvert progress than a skilled witch of many years’ experience. Nice idea!

But just think of the magic in searching through the old tomes, reading carefully inked spells, and wondering where one could my eye of newt these days 🙂

Even though every recipe in the world is online now, I still read cookbooks cover to cover. That’s my magic, kitchen magic.

Well that will set modernization of spells back! I was thinking, pressing keys isn’t nearly as exciting as a pinch of newt eye and spot of frog spit.

Dear Tracey,
I often say we’re living the sci-fi of my youth. The Forbin Project comes to mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyOEwiQhzMI Well written and disturbing. Digital witchcraft is an apt description.

Rochelle
