Street Party

by T. Delaplain

Emily weaved past the worst of the octopi, imagining a shark schooling them in manners before leaving a pile of tentacles. The mess would invite more predators, but it would be worth it, if she didn’t have to endure the not so subtle brushes against her tail as she swished by with her hands full.

“Another round of puffer fish!”

She purposefully ignored a table of slimy eels, lurking in the darkest corner. Let ‘em be thirsty, they never tipped.

Emily had plans and she needed the sand dollars so she persevered even on “Dress Like a Human Street Party” night.

Just keep swimming.

Join us at Friday Fictioneers. Our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields will give you 100 words to join this street party and write your “tail”. In answer to your questions, I have no idea what plans a mermaid might have that requires currency. Dolphins are known to pass around puffer fish for a quick high and sharks are sometimes welcome to take out the trash. Pass the vegan chicken wings and let’s raise a pint.

  1. Very funny perspective :). Also, for some reason I decided to enlarge the picture for closer inspection and noticed the leg in the shark’s mouth for the first time! Wish I’d seen it sooner 🙂
