Street Party
by T. Delaplain
Emily weaved past the worst of the octopi, imagining a shark schooling them in manners before leaving a pile of tentacles. The mess would invite more predators, but it would be worth it, if she didn’t have to endure the not so subtle brushes against her tail as she swished by with her hands full.
“Another round of puffer fish!”
She purposefully ignored a table of slimy eels, lurking in the darkest corner. Let ‘em be thirsty, they never tipped.
Emily had plans and she needed the sand dollars so she persevered even on “Dress Like a Human Street Party” night.
Just keep swimming.
Join us at Friday Fictioneers. Our host Rochelle Wisoff-Fields will give you 100 words to join this street party and write your “tail”. In answer to your questions, I have no idea what plans a mermaid might have that requires currency. Dolphins are known to pass around puffer fish for a quick high and sharks are sometimes welcome to take out the trash. Pass the vegan chicken wings and let’s raise a pint.
Under the sea at its best.

Under the sea
Darling it’s better
Down where it’s wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin’
Full time to floatin’
Under the sea

So the sea creatures have as much manners as the human creatures do, eh? Go get ’em Emily!

I’m sure it’s true. Bad manners and overindulge in puffers. Ha ha
Thanks Dale

So, a sea creature disguised as a person but all the guys are trying to “hook” her.

Indeed, I never trust a sea creation who’s deep in his puffer fish.

Thank you. Makes me wonder what an octopus wears. Eight flip flops and a baseball cap. Imagine. Ha ha

Dear Tracey,
This tale certainly captures this mermaid’s heart. Swishing my tail with delight.

I love the idea behind this one. Beautifully done. Though those eels sound awful, stay clear of them

Exactly, I never trust an eel in or out of the water.

A fishy tale indeed. And I always try to ignore the eels.

I tend to swim in the opposite direction. I’m not too fond of sharks either to be clear. Ha

‘Those not so subtle brushes against her tail’ – poor Emily. I feel her frustration. Fun story.

Very funny perspective :). Also, for some reason I decided to enlarge the picture for closer inspection and noticed the leg in the shark’s mouth for the first time! Wish I’d seen it sooner 🙂
