Too Late For Rain

Too Late For Rain
By T. Delaplain

I erupted into a tornado of flames as I read the missives. The betrayal was made real, no longer just a gut feeling. Our secrets and plans had been laid bare. I thought we were a team. Was destroying me your ultimate goal?

There would be no escape now. You brought the Agency to our door but neither of us would survive. They didn’t bother to knock or ask us why. The noble goal for the greater good; never to see the light of day. Too late to explain and too late to call down the rain.

If you feel the need to write, join us at Friday Fictioneers. Our hostess Rochelle Wisoff will give you 100 words to bring on the fire.

Another story of La Señora, hopefully it’s just another death defying near miss for these mismatched spies. You can read more of her stories and her dance with the Agency here, here and here.

    1. Thanks for that lovely comment. Does Someone have a name? I often forget to sign in with WordPress when I’m commenting and I’m too lazy to sign in with blogspot and other platforms.

  1. I really like how the overall spy story was cohesive and then the two paragraphs had two totally different vibes. The first paragraph had a humanity vibe with pain – and the second paragraph had the action, suspense, intrigue, etc – with the tasty ending “Too late to explain and too late to call down the rain.”

      1. yes – and speaking of the 100 words – that is one of my favorite things about this challenge – seeing what folks can do with that many words is a lot of fun – and it also is a good amount to read entries for.
I follow some authors who post really long pieces and as much as I love their writing – and know I would benefit from reading their stuff – but simply do not always have that much time – ya know? so the 100 words has many perks.

  2. I went back to read two of the three stories (the link on the second one is no bueno). I think she is not to be discounted. Methinks she will find a way out of this mess. Trouble with partnerships is you can’t always trust the other!

  3. My first reply got eaten by wordpress or is in your spam folder, anyway,

Betrayal by partners is the worst. I hope she kicks behinds.

I like how you described her anger, great use of the prompt.

      1. I’m sure it just disappeared. I had trouble logging in, and then the stupid program just deletes everything you’ve written before. Don’t worry.

  4. Dear Tracey,

Spy vs Spy. Now that brings a picture to mind. 😉 At least for those of us who cut their teeth on MAD Magazine.

A good story fraught with tension and betrayal.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
