Too Late For Rain
By T. Delaplain
I erupted into a tornado of flames as I read the missives. The betrayal was made real, no longer just a gut feeling. Our secrets and plans had been laid bare. I thought we were a team. Was destroying me your ultimate goal?
There would be no escape now. You brought the Agency to our door but neither of us would survive. They didn’t bother to knock or ask us why. The noble goal for the greater good; never to see the light of day. Too late to explain and too late to call down the rain.

Another story of La Señora, hopefully it’s just another death defying near miss for these mismatched spies. You can read more of her stories and her dance with the Agency here, here and here.
dang! So so good!

Thanks for that lovely comment. Does Someone have a name? I often forget to sign in with WordPress when I’m commenting and I’m too lazy to sign in with blogspot and other platforms.

hold on to hope—for as long as you have breath, there remains the divine possibility of deliverance.

Hope or you carry bigger guns. (Only appropriate in my fictional universe of spies. I do not support gun violence, to be clear.)
Thanks for your comment.

I loved the last line and the (accidental/deliberate?) rhyme

We’ve seen this character in action, she’s not to be underestimated. I’m not sure why I wrote her in first person today. Maybe I needed to feel badass. 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks Keith.

I enjoyed your language in describing the betrayal. It feels like she’s holding back on feeling it fully until later (in her cell.)

Thank you. I’m not sure she feels much remorse and the Agency has no intent of capturing her alive but that’s the rest of the story. I appreciate your comments Lisa.

Once committed to a course of action, it is forever too late.

I really like how the overall spy story was cohesive and then the two paragraphs had two totally different vibes. The first paragraph had a humanity vibe with pain – and the second paragraph had the action, suspense, intrigue, etc – with the tasty ending “Too late to explain and too late to call down the rain.”

Thank you for comments. I do love a tasty ending. With only 100 words you have to leave a few tasty morsels to chew on.

yes – and speaking of the 100 words – that is one of my favorite things about this challenge – seeing what folks can do with that many words is a lot of fun – and it also is a good amount to read entries for.
I follow some authors who post really long pieces and as much as I love their writing – and know I would benefit from reading their stuff – but simply do not always have that much time – ya know? so the 100 words has many perks.

I went back to read two of the three stories (the link on the second one is no bueno). I think she is not to be discounted. Methinks she will find a way out of this mess. Trouble with partnerships is you can’t always trust the other!

Thank you. These two spies are never really on the same page…. so to speak. So glad that you stopped by, Tracey
I fixed the link. Thanks for letting me know.

My first reply got eaten by wordpress or is in your spam folder, anyway,
Betrayal by partners is the worst. I hope she kicks behinds.
I like how you described her anger, great use of the prompt.

I’m sure it just disappeared. I had trouble logging in, and then the stupid program just deletes everything you’ve written before. Don’t worry.

Dear Tracey,
Spy vs Spy. Now that brings a picture to mind. 😉 At least for those of us who cut their teeth on MAD Magazine.
A good story fraught with tension and betrayal.

Good character development.
Is there publishing in your future?

I would have to write more 100 words per week, so it isn’t likely. 😌 Thanks for stopping at my door Dawn.
